The objective of this study is to present an epistemological analysis of the crime of financing terrorism using cryptocurrencies. The issue in question stands out, especially regarding the adequacy of the elementary elements of the crime of financing terrorism with the material content of the illicit in the context of virtual currencies. In this regard, we will analyze the topic from the perspective of regulatory normative instruments on the matter, in order to establish the connection between the criminal type and the use of cryptocurrencies. As a result of the study, it is inevitable to conclude that there is no firm conclusion about the problem now posed, because, in principle, the typification of the terrorist financing conduct has not yet developed sufficiently, given the complexity of the reality for which intended.
